A bandit was shot and killed last night after he and his accomplice invaded a Nandy Park, East Bank Demerara home.
The identity of the deceased had not been released by the police up to press time.
Police Commander of Region Four (B) Division, Senior Superintendent Kurleigh Simon told Stabroek News that the bandit was shot by a private security firm that responded to the alarm.
The victims, when approached declined to comment as they remained traumatised from the ordeal. It was noted that this is not the first time they had been robbed.
Stabroek News was told that two men gained entry into the family home just after 8.30 pm.
The men scaled the fence and jumped into the verandah before making their way into the house.
Upon entering, the bandits who were armed with guns demanded cash and jewellery. Stabroek News understands that the men gathered an undisclosed amount of valuables before escaping.
This newspaper learnt that the bandit was shot a short distance away from the robbery scene.
Police have since launched an investigation.
