Edward Skeete, one of the five men wounded during Sunday morning’s shooting at Magic City Lounge at Garnett Street, remains hospitalised in a critical condition.
Contacted yesterday afternoon, Police Commander of Region 4(a) Phillip Azore told Stabroek News that up to then Skeete, called ‘Pretty Boy,’ 34, of Albouystown, Georgetown, was listed as being in critical condition.
The other injured men have been identified as Keitzel Brazilo, Shomaul Jack, Akeem Atton, also known as ‘Akeem Sinclair’ or ‘Buxton,’ and Keyshawn Patterson.
Jack, who suffered a single gunshot to his left foot, was treated and discharged.
Brazilo, who was shot to his buttocks, was treated at a private hospital and he took self-discharge. It remains unclear whether the police were able to contact him afterward.
The other two men remain warded at the Georgetown Public Hospital. They are listed as stable, Azore said.
The shooting, which occurred around 3.30am, claimed the life of taxi driver Raymond Lindo, of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara.
Lindo was found lying face down on the southern side of Garnett Street, about two hundred yards from the nightclub. The nightclub is housed in the downstairs of a two-storey building.
The police had said that investigations revealed that the owner of the club, Orin Forde, who rents the building, hosted a private party at the club from 4pm Saturday to 8pm. He left the party some fifteen minutes before the affair was expected to end.
Forde reportedly told the police that he left the manager of his nightclub in charge to secure the club on completion of the party. He further said that he did not know of the shooting until at 6am on Sunday, when he was awakened by the manager, who related to him what had transpired.
It was said that Lindo, Skeete and four other persons entered the party uninvited.
The police said that while at the club an argument ensued among the uninvited group over a young woman. This led to a series of gunshots inside the club. This sent all those present at the club scattering. One of the men within the group was seen with a handgun, which he reportedly dropped in a nearby yard before he entered a police vehicle which he had stopped. The police vehicle then drove away.
Police combed the inside of the club and found four .45 spent shells, two .45 rounds, one 9 mm spent shell, and two .32 spent shells. Meanwhile, in front of the club two .32 spent shells were found and a .32 spent shell in a parking lot near the club. A .45 pistol with a magazine was also found in a nearby yard. It is believed to be the gun dropped by the man who used the police vehicle as his getaway transportation.
