President Irfaan Ali will be swearing in members of his Cabinet, today at 3 pm at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, according to a notice from the Ministry of the Presidency.
University of Guyana lecturer Hugh Todd is expected to be named Minister of Foreign Affairs and Vindhya Persaud as Minister of Social Protection. Charles Ramson Jr is likely to be named Minister of Sport.
Following his inauguration on Sunday, Ali swore in Gail Teixeira as Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Anil Nandlall as Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs.
Former President Bharrat Jagdeo was sworn in Vice President but without a portfolio being assigned. It is possible that Jagdeo will be given responsibility for finance.
Who gets the natural resources portfolio and whether it includes energy will be closely watched.
Sources have said that it is likely that Priya Manickchand will return to the Ministry of Education and that the Agriculture portfolio will go to executive member Zulfikar Mustapha. The portfolio of Home Affairs could be assigned to Robeson Benn and Public Infrastructure to Deodat Indar.
There is also likely to be consolidation of ministries and a reversion to their original names. The Citizenship Department will be dissolved and reunited with Home Affairs.
