The Cuyuni/Mazaruni region (Region Seven) has now recorded more than 100 cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) with the indigenous community of Batavia recording a sudden increase.
According to a statement by Regional Health Officer, Dr Edward Sagala, Region Seven now has 104 COVID-19 cases, including two deaths. Sagala added that as a result of the sudden spike in COVID-19 cases in Batavia Village, a seven-member team visited the area on Monday to conduct further screening and testing.
The team also visited several other communities including Kartabo and Agatash on the same date. On Tuesday, Sagala added, the team visited River’s View, Itaballi and Karrau Creek.
