A West Bank Berbice man succumbed at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital this morning after he sustained a gunshot injury on Monday evening in a domestic dispute involving a couple.
Dead is Winston Robertson, 33, of D’Edward Village, West Bank Berbice, who was shot once in the chest.
According to Commander of Region Five, Yonette Stephens, Robertson was rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital after which he was transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.
Stephens told Stabroek News that the incident occurred at Lot 42, Cotton Tree Village, West Coast Berbice. She noted that investigators are on the hunt for the suspect.
Stabroek News was told that the suspect accused his partner on Sunday evening of talking with someone else via the internet. After a fight between the couple, the woman left home the said night to go to a friend’s house in Cotton Tree Village. On Monday around 7.30 pm, the suspect arrived at the friend’s house where he noticed Robertson and the woman in conversation, which led to a fight.
According to the commander, the woman sustained lacerations around her head and other parts of her body after which Robertson was shot.
