The COVID-19 situation in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) is not improving, according to Regional Health Officer Dr. Edward Sagala.
In an update, Sagala on Monday reported that the situation is not showing any improvement as the region had recorded 135 positive cases of the virus.
The update stated that there were nine areas in the region that have recorded cases of the virus: Bartica, which has recorded 15 cases; Aranka, 49; Devil’s Hole, 23; Big Hope, 2; Batavia, 19; New Found Out, 9; Agatash, 4; Melangree 5; and River’s View, 1.
Dr. Sagala told Stabroek News that presently there are no problems with isolation facilities even with the large number of cases that the region has recorded. He noted that most of the persons who are considered active cases are not being isolated at facilities as most are asymptomatic and they are in isolation at their homes.
Additionally he said that a mass random testing activity was carried out on Sunday at the Bartica Market area.
Further the statement mentioned that continuous sensitisation, screening and testing is ongoing in the region.
