The twelve Brazilian nationals who were intercepted while en route to Linden have been remanded to prison after being charged with illegal entry.
The twelve Brazilians, ten men and two women, appeared before Magistrate Wanda Fortune at the Linden Magistrates’ Court yesterday when they were read the charge which states that on July 30, 2020, they illegally entered Guyana. After they all denied the charge, they were remanded until their next hearing on August 19.
According to previous information reported by Stabreok News, Guyana Police Force ranks intercepted the Brazilian nationals who were accompanied by a Guyanese bus driver while en route to Linden during the early morning hours. Region Ten Commander Hugh Winter, had told this newspaper that the bus’ occupants were tested for the novel coronavirus.
He noted that the police were only made aware of the foreigners’ nationality after their passports were checked. Also, given the fact that they were in a Lethem to Georgetown bus, police believe that they had travelled from Lethem.
