A shattered Lennox ‘Too Sharp’ Allen has vowed to come back stronger after suffering a stunning first professional loss Saturday night.
Allen, was defeated via unanimous decision at the hands of Cuban/American, Osvary David Morrell at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.
The scorecards read (120-108), (119-109) and (118-110) all heavily in favour of Morrell who earned the interim version of the World Boxing Association (WBA) super middleweight title.
Breaking his silence to Stabroek Sport, the Brooklyn, New York-based Guyanese declared yesterday: “It’s just a setback for a major comeback. I just spoke to my managers and promoters and we want to get back into the ring as soon as possible.”
Allen’s career has been marred by inactivity and he blamed ring rust for the lopsided loss.
“Ring rust was definitely a factor. It definitely caught up to me, I should have let my hands go some more” said the southpaw who had not fought since last February.
With the loss to Morrell who is undefeated in his three career fights, Allen suffered the first blemish on his record which now reads 22-1-1 (14KOs).
The 35 year-old nicknamed ‘Too Sharp’ disclosed that he is “now more hungry than ever.”
“I am going to take some time off, go on a vacation with my family and I will be back. I am now more hungry than ever before. I am more motivated now and I’m definitely going to be back in the ring before the end of the year.”
Capturing a world title is still high on his agenda.
Allen concluded by thanking his friends, fans and family for their support prior to fight night.
