The deeply disturbing consequences of the onset of COVID-19 can hardly be compensated for by anything short of some ‘miracle’ serum that can erase this plague from the planet in the shortest possible time. Still, with human health and survival now having become the number one global priority, there is evidence that countries across the world are busying themselves with finding ways (as best they can) of minimising the effects of the virus.
With global medical opinion asserting that adherence to the strictest of sanitary conditions could help keep the virus at bay, at least two local firms have put talent and technology together in an effort to make a difference.
The Stabroek Business has learnt one of the country’s better-known manufacturing entities, Sterling Products Ltd, has launched its own hand sanitiser under the Mighty Foam brand and that it has already gone on sale in local retail outlets.
Mighty Foam Hand Sanitizer takes its place alongside another now-widely popular locally manufactured sanitising product, Environ, a sanitising cleaner launched by Demerara Distillers Ltd earlier this year.
Having already made an impact on markets both here in Guyana and elsewhere in the Caribbean, particularly with its ice creams, Sterling Products’ latest manufacturing venture reflects not just the timeliness in its planning process but its adherence to the high standards of packaging and labelling that it has set.
Setting aside this most recent evidence that Guyana’s manufacturing sector is capable of raising its game to respond to circumstances, the appearance of the pleasingly presented Mighty Foam Hand Sanitizer on the market makes yet another timely case for the ‘buy local’ advocacy that is yet to secure its deserved consumer response across Guyana.
