Guyana now has 420 active COVID-19 cases which accounts for 66.5% of the total confirmed cases recorded to date.
This was revealed through the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 Dashboard which showed that some eight new cases of the novel coronavirus were recorded yesterday which increased Guyana’s total case count to 631. The new cases reportedly came from Regions Two, Four, Nine and Ten. Some 176 more persons were tested for the virus during the last testing cycle which increased the total number of persons tested to 5,638. A number of government ministers’ samples were taken for testing on Wednesday after it was revealed that Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Hugh Todd had tested positive for the virus. Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony told Stabroek News yesterday that up to last evening they had not received their test results from the laboratory.
Dr. Anthony further noted that whenever those results are returned, it would be up to those ministers who were tested to determine if they want to reveal their results to the public.
Meanwhile, some 13 more persons have recovered from the virus, increasing Guyana’s total number of recoveries to 202. Five persons remain at the country’s COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit while some 45 persons are at institutional quarantine facilities.
A further breakdown of the number of COVID-19 cases recorded by region showed that Region One has recorded 104 cases while Region Four has recorded 162 cases. Region Seven since the beginning of the outbreak has recorded 148 cases while Region Nine has recorded 136 cases. Those four regions have recorded the highest number of cases.
