Chairman of the Private Sector Commission, Gerry Gouveia yesterday announced that he has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
Gouveia made the announcement in a Facebook post where he stated that he was tested as he was preparing to travel to Barbados to attend the funeral today of former Prime Minister of Barbados, Owen Arthur.
“I undertook, as required to take a COVID-19 PCR test”, he said in the post while adding that the results unfortunately showed that he was positive for the virus.
The chairman noted that he has not been exhibiting any signs or symptoms associated with the novel coronavirus and as such is an asymptomatic patient. Further he noted that he is now in self isolation and will be isolated for seven days as he awaits another test.
“I regret that, especially as the Barbados Honorary Consul in Guyana, I am now unable to attend the funeral of this outstanding son of the Caribbean”, Gouveia stated in his post.
He added that he is following all protocols required as a positive COVID-19 case and is hopeful for a speedy recovery. As such Gouveia stated that he has already advised a number of persons with whom he had been in in contact with in recent days to get tested for the virus.
