A man and a young child were fatally wounded, while four others, including two other children, were injured after a teenager attacked them on Thursday afternoon at Bat Creek, Upper Pomeroon River.
Dead are Ramdat Singh, 5, called “Shami”, and Kissoon Williams, 3, both of Bat Creek, Upper Pomeroon River, who were stabbed by the accused teen, who was arrested yesterday.
Those hospitalised have been identified as Adona Williams, 23 and Jonie Williams, 22, and two children, who are six years, and one year.
The Williams sisters, including one whose throat was slashed, have since undergone emergency surgery. The victims were up to last evening admitted at the Suddie Hospital, where they were listed as stable.
The attack on the family occurred around 3 pm.
The police, in a press release, said that information revealed that Singh was attacked and stabbed after which he fell on the ground. The suspect then allegedly turned his attention to the Williams sisters and the three children, leaving them all wounded. He later made good his escape.
The victims were all placed in a boat and taken to the Charity Hospital, where Singh was pronounced dead. The others were subsequently transferred to the Suddie Hospital, where Kissoon Williams later succumbed while in intensive care.
Police Commander of Region Two Crystal Robinson confirmed to Stabroek News that the suspect was arrested last evening at Bat Creek, Upper Pomeroon River.
According to Robinson, investigators are still trying to determine what led to the attack.
Police said following the arrest, it was observed that the suspect had wounds which he admitted were self-inflicted. He was taken to the Charity Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and discharged.
