A Cevons Waste Management truck caught afire just after mid-day yesterday at Stevedore Housing Scheme, in South Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
The fire started around 12.15pm. Members of the Guyana Fire Service were alerted and they managed to quickly put out the fire.
Fire Chief Marlon Gentle yesterday told Sunday Stabroek that investigations revealed that the truck, GVV 6366 experienced electrical issues, which resulted in the fire. As a result, he said the cabin and other sections of the truck were destroyed. No injuries were reported.
Residents of the area recalled hearing a loud explosion. Upon checking, they said they noticed the fire. The incident occurred just a stone’s throw away from the company’s truck storage facility.
