Skipper of the Guyana Amazon Warriors says his side is “gutted” after suffering their second loss in four matches of the Caribbean Premier League last night.
During an interview after the match Green stated, “Disappointing results today, I think we were gutted after the start, full credit has to go to St. Lucia, the way they bowled in the power play really put us under the pump.”
The captain maintained his confidence in the batting line up despite them slipping to seven for three at one stage and revealed that the thought process was “to let them have a go.”
“The guys are good enough now to let them assess wicket we knew that they had four options and we could target their fifth bowler but full credit to them they were able to execute their plans and keep us out tonight.” He said. On the other hand, Green took away a few positives from the match. He highlighted. “Nicholas Pooran 60 [68] runs, [Sherfane] Rutherford coming to the party, you know just showing signs of what we can do and we got to keep building…it wasn’t the start today but the middle that picked us up today and almost got us over the line.”
The off-spinner also credited the bowlers, particularly Ashmead Nedd, who he noted has demonstrated his maturity and value along with Imran Tahir and Odean Smith, “who came into the side and injected some energy.”
Looking ahead, Green maintained that his side will be looking to peak towards the business end of the tournament.
“It’s always tough to beat 11 in a row,” Green compared last season’s record while adding, “it’s going to be tough but we are learning from our losses, we are learning from our wins, it’s not about peaking now, we have to be peaking towards the back end, four teams go through, there is no home advantage, there is no second chances, we’ve got to be peaking at the back end, hitting our straps.”
