PPP/C to plug loopholes in anti-money laundering act

Attorney General, Anil Nandlall says  that it is the desire of the new People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Administration to address the numerous deficiencies of the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) Act.

Nandlall made the statement as he met yesterday with the British High Commissioner, Greg Quinn at the Attorney General’s Chambers and Ministry of Legal Affairs.

Nandlall, according to a release from the AG’s Chambers, also informed the High Commissioner of the Government’s plan to amend the State Asset Recovery Agency Act.

In relation to the oil and gas sector, the Attorney General updated the High Commissioner on the Government’s plan to obtain advice on the status of the Natural Resource Fund legislation which was enacted after the passage of the no confidence motion and in the absence of the Opposition and to immediately begin work on local content legislation and related policies.

In this regard, the release said that the Attorney General inquired about any grants from the UK that may assist Guyana in furthering its  legislative agenda over the coming years. The British High Commissioner endeavoured to inquire about same.
