A resident of Nismes, West Bank Demerara was relieved of $4.4 million on Monday night after two men armed with guns invaded his home.
Police yesterday said that at approximately 11.50 pm, the men pounced on the victim while he was asleep. The victim’s identity has not been disclosed.
Investigations reveal that the victim who had fallen asleep in his living room while watching television, was awakened by the bandits. One of the bandits who was armed with a nickel-plated hand gun, pointed it at the man and demanded that he hand over the money to him. He was then ordered to lie face down on the floor.
According to the police, the second bandit, whose face was covered with a white cloth and was also armed with a handgun, entered the living room, placed a jersey over the victim’s head, and tied his feet and hands behind his back.
In the course of their demands, the bandits threatened the victim’s life, and being fearful, he directed the bandits to the location of the money.
The man told police that he kept the money at home after returning from working in Chi Chi Backdam, Upper Mazaruni River, as a detector operator. He also said that he returned from the interior two months ago but kept the cash at home.
After obtaining the cash, the gunmen exited the house and made good their escape in a waiting car. The victim managed to free himself and raised an alarm.
No arrest has been made.
