The number of active coronavirus disease cases (COVID-19) in the Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo region (Region 9) has significantly decreased during the past few days with the Regional Chairman Bryan Allicock informing that the region now only has 20 active cases.
Allicock however cautioned that this is not a sign that the disease has been contained considering that they are awaiting the test results for many from the region. As such, he urged persons to continue to follow the guidelines and precautionary measures.
Allicock related that while some persons are beginning to comply with the instituted measures, others are still crossing the borders illegally and up to yesterday morning he was informed that two persons were caught coming over from Brazil. He warned that if this practice continues, the region’s fight would be far from over.
