Dear Editor,
I refer to the Letter to the Editor in the Stabroek News of August 26th, 2020 ‘I call on GBTI to revert to the $35 ATM fee’ penned by Mr. Winston Jordan, Former Minister of Finance.
Mr. Jordan, thank you for taking time to share your experience and observations. The Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Limited (GBTI), as the bank that sees Guyana through your Eyes; finds it necessary and important to obtain feedback from fellow Guyanese; same assists us in our efforts to provide improved services and products to meet the needs of both our domestic and international clients.
With the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, GBTI unprecedentedly and unprompted reduced and waived several of its fees; many of the said reductions and waivers were unmatched by other members of the banking fraternity.
One such fee waived was our ATM fees, the subject of Mr. Jordan’s observation. It should be noted that GBTI was the only bank to waive self-service banking fees (ATM and Point of Sale (POS)). ATM and POS fees originally charged were waived for a period of more than 4 months. On August 1st, 2020 and adhering to the BOG guidelines under whose scrutiny we conduct our business, we publicized in three dailies and on social media platforms including our website, the reintroduction of the aforementioned fees accompanied by a 29% reduction.
As our nation continues its upward trajectory, it is imperative that Guyana’s banks are strong, well-capitalized and positioned to support the development and growth of our industries and our communities.
GBTI remains committed to supporting its clients affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and seeks to address ways of continuously making banking services convenient, easy, and efficient for all our Customers.
Please visit our website https://www.gbtibank.com/ to learn how GBTI is treating with the COVID-19 pandemic and about alternative ways of banking at the bank that sees Guyana through your Eyes, GBTI.
