An Eastern Airlines flight from Guyana was forced to make an emergency landing at John F Kennedy International Airport in New York last Tuesday evening after it developed difficulties.
This was confirmed in a release yesterday by Director General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority Lt Col Egbert Field (Ret’d).
He informed that the authority’s inspectors are investigating and have requested a report and are now waiting for a response from the authorities in the US.
Field however assured that the flight did land safely and the situation was handled well by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Eastern Airlines over the past few months has been conducting several repatriation flights between Guyana and the US as the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri has been closed to commercial flights due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
