Guyana yesterday recorded three new COVID-19 related fatalities along with some 40 new cases as the coronavirus surge continues in Region Four.
The new deaths were observed on the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 dashboard which was posted on ministry’s Facebook page. The new deaths increased Guyana’s total number as a result of the virus to 35. So far for the month of August, 15 deaths have been recorded. No information about the three new deaths were provided to the media or the general public as the ministry has been tightlipped on a number of recent COVID-19 related deaths.
Meanwhile, 40 new cases were recorded yesterday which increased Guyana’s total positive cases to 1,180. There are currently 503 active cases of which 407 are in approved home isolation with another 96 in institutional isolation. During the last testing cycle 157 more persons were tested which increased the total number of persons tested to 7,811.
Currently, 112 persons are in institutional quarantine while nine persons remain in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit. Of the new cases, 22 were recorded in Region Nine and 12 in Region Four. Cases appear to be spiking in Region Four which was the first epicentre of the virus following the initial outbreak in the country.
