A pedal cyclist died this afternoon after he was struck down by a speeding motor vehicle along the Rupert Craig Highway.
The dead man is yet to be identified.
The accident occurred around 1.15pm in front of Yokohama Trading. The driver of the motor vehicle, GTT 8153, was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
Traffic Chief Ramesh Ashram told reporters at the scene that preliminary investigation revealed that the motor vehicle was heading to Georgetown when the driver reportedly lost control and struck down the pedal cyclist.
The vehicle then slammed into a wall and toppled before coming to a halt.
Eyewitnesses told this newspaper that the driver was speeding prior to the accident.
This area has been the scene of a number of horrific fatal accidents.
