Dear Editor,
I refer to the mega-project proposed for the Mahaica/Mahaicony area. My family has had lands along the Mahaica River for several generations. My first knowledge of the project was after visiting families and noting that vegetation had been completely removed from some of the lands. Upon enquiring I was told that there was going to be project and an ex-leading politician was involved. I subsequently received a video via WhatsApp purportedly showing what the development was going to look like. I am still not sure if that video refers to the same project.
I spoke to a few residents of the area and they had no idea of the project or the principals involved. No one contacted them or informed them of this development. I called the Environmental Protection Agency and asked for the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA). I was asked to call at another time. Is there an ESIA? How can those of us that are concerned about the impacts of the project on flooding and the general ecosystem of the Mahaica River access it?
Yours faithfully,
