Dwayne Castello, known as ‘Top Cat,’ was on Friday charged and remanded to prison for the murder of marketing agent Navindra Samaroo, who was fatally shot at Middle Road, La Penitence just over a month and a half ago
Castello, 27, of East Ruimveldt, made his appearance before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in Georgetown to answer the charge.
The charge states that on July 23rd, 2020, at Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown, he murdered Samaroo during a robbery.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison.
Castello is to make his next appearance for the matter on December 1st, 2020.
On Thursday last, Castello was also charged with shooting at a police officer and firearm possession charges, for which he was remanded to prison.
The charge read to him then stated that on August 27th, 2020, at East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he discharged a firearm at police officer Kester Cosbert with intent to maim, disfigure, or cause him actual bodily harm.
It was also alleged that on the same day and place, he had a 9mm pistol along with six rounds of matching ammunition in his possession when he was not a licenced firearm holder.
He was not required to plead to the three charges and was subsequently remanded. Those matters will be called again on September 23rd before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty.
Police have said that on the day in question, at about 8.05pm, ranks were on mobile patrol along Genip Lane, East Ruimveldt when they saw Cas-tello, who was wanted for the murder of Samaroo as well as a series of robberies.
Upon seeing the police approaching, Castello, with the use of a motorcycle, attempted to escape. However, the ranks exited the patrol vehicle and Castello allegedly pulled out a gun and opened fire at them. The police return-ed fire and Castello was shot in one of his legs.
He was subsequently arrested and searched. The firearm and ammunition were found in his possession.
