Fifty-three new COVID-19 cases were recorded on Tuesday along with yet another fatality.
The Ministry of Health announced in a press release that Guyana has recorded its 48th fatality as a result of the novel coronavirus. The release informed that the latest COVID-19 death is an 84-year-old man from Region Seven who died while receiving care at a medical facility. It further stated that at the time of admission the patient was swabbed for the virus and the results were returned positive.
According to the ministry, it has initiated contact tracing beginning with family members, to ascertain who would have been in contact with the patient.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 dashboard showed that 53 new cases were recorded, increasing the total number of cases recorded in Guyana to date, to 1,613. There are currently 477 persons in home isolation, and 42 in institutional isolation, which accounts for the number of active cases in the country. Further, 16 persons are in the COVID-19 intensive care unit, and 74 persons are in institutional quarantine.
The country has now surpassed 10,000 tests as 241 more persons were tested which increased the total number of persons tested to 10,003. It is unclear if any of the tests that were recorded in Tuesday’s dashboard were results that were sent back from the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) in Trinidad.
