The Muslim Youth Organization (MYO), an active cricket club in the Georgetown Cricket Association, is the latest sport group to speak out against the killing of Berbice teens Isaiah Henry and Joel Henry.
“The Muslim Youth Organisation of Guyana condemns the savage murder of the two teenage cousins Isaiah Henry and Joel Henry.” President of the body Azad Ibrahim said in a statement.
“We further extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families of these two young men whose lives were snatched out with such brutality,” he added.
“Whilst it’s easy to cast aspersions to the motive behind these murders; absolutely nothing justifies it. As a Muslim Organisation we adhere to the Quranic dictate from chapter 49 verse 13, “O men! Behold, we have created you all out of a male and a female, and have made you into nations and tribes, so that you might come to know one another. Verily, the noblest of you in the sight of God is the one who is most deeply conscious of Him. Behold, God is all-knowing, all-aware.” The Islamic body is calling on the Guyana Police Force to expeditiously solve the murders and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The organisation is also urging the protesters not to indulge in any form of criminality as they express their frustration. They also commended the parents of the two young lads for their strength and fortitude and pledged to stand with them to ensure justice is served.
The battered and mutilated bodies of Isaiah and Joel Henry were discovered on Sunday last in Cotton Tree Village, West Coast Berbice.
Their remains bore several gruesome wounds; Police have since arrested seven persons including a 57-year-old farmer from Cotton Tree.
The killings have attracted condemnation by both the government and opposition and resulted in protests on the West Coast of Berbice.
