Chris Green has thoroughly enjoyed the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and has expressed his desire to return next year.
Since 2018, Green has been a member of the Guyana Amazon Warriors and led them to a spot in the semi-final this season.
Despite a roller-coaster campaign for the team, Green ended the season with nine wickets and an economy rate of 5.68 even after working with a remodeled bowling action.
The all-rounder did not share similar success with the bat though, scoring a mere 17 runs from five innings.
Nevertheless, the 26-year-old Australian stated during a recent interview, “If you offer me a contract right here and now I would definitely be coming back to the CPL!”
Green reflected on the unusual circumstances the tournament was played under due to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic which forced the organisers to condense the fixture, implement a bio-secure venue and rigorous health protocols.
In addition, the tournament was hosted solely by Trinidad and Tobago rather than across the Caribbean.
Green noted, “If it’s in one country or 10 countries, it’s a great tournament, its help me put myself on the map and I love playing here.”
With many commenting of the home advantage afforded to Trinbago Knight Riders who completed a flawless tournament to walk away champions, Green was not one in support of those sentiments. He admitted it was difficult but argued that had it been anywhere else another team would have been at a perceived advantage.
“It’s been tough, there is no lying about that, I think people are talking about Trinidad having local advantage, someone would have had it somewhere and it’s just different, if anything its motivated our group, other teams chose to look at it differently but from our perspective it is what it is, you can only control what you can control,” Green explained.
The Warriors skipper commended the organisers for pulling off the tournament, owing to the number of obstacles hindering cricket worldwide.
“In all honesty I think the CPL has done an amazing job in getting this tournament up and running, in these times. It is incredibly difficult to get anything up and going so to bring players from overseas, from different countries to one place, go through a bubble and allow us the opportunity to play cricket I would absolutely come back in a heartbeat,” he stated.
