The National Assembly now has two additional members in the persons of Parliamentary Secretaries Sarah Browne and Vickash Ramkissoon.
They have been appointed in keeping with Article 186 of the Guyana Constitution which provides that Parliamentary Secretaries may be appointed from among persons who are qualified to be elected as members of the National Assembly.
Such Secretaries are appointed by the President to assist specific subject ministers and may respond to questions and debate matters in the Assembly. They however do not have voting rights.
Browne has been appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Amerindian Affairs Pauline Sukhai while Ramkissoon is Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha.
