Samuel Allen, who police say murdered a security guard attached to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) Office at Port Kaituma, North West District, was yesterday charged and remanded to prison.
Allen, 27, of Arakaka, also in the North West, appeared before Magistrate Dylon Bess via Zoom.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which was read to him. The charge states that on September 5th, 2020, at Train Line, Port Kaituma, he murdered Earl Peters.
He was remanded to prison until October 13th, 2020, when a Preliminary Inquiry into the charge is due to begin.
Police had said that about 10.25 pm on the day in question, a businessman who resides at Train Line, Port Kaituma said that he heard someone shouting for help. He immediately went outside to investigate and observed a male, whom he recognised to be 75-year-old Peters, lying on the ground soaked with what appeared to be blood. As a result, the businessman ran to the Port Kaituma Police Station and made a report.
At about 10.35 pm, a party of policemen visited the scene and observed the victim lying on his back on the ground in an unconscious state and soaked with what appeared to be blood from injuries to his abdomen, the left side of his head and left wrist.
Meanwhile, another statement issued by the police said that on Monday, at about 4.40 pm ranks went to the S1A Junction, One Mile, Port Kaituma, where they confronted Allen, who was wanted in relation to the murder of Peters.
The statement said as the police were apprehending the suspect he whipped out a knife and wounded Lance Corporal Bertland Scotland.
“Police Lance Corporal Bertland Scotland, stationed at Port Kaituma Police Station, was stabbed on his left hand, left hip, left lower abdomen, left eye brow and left buttock,” the statement informed, while noting that the suspect was arrested.
Scotland was initially treated at the Port Kaituma District Hospital but was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The statement also revealed that in addition to the murder of Peters, the suspect is also wanted for the wounding of Troy Roberts and Police Constable Edwards.
