Months after they were recaptured, three prisoners including a murder accused who fled while incarcerated at the Lusignan Prison were jailed after they admitted to escaping from custody.
Anthony Padmore, Sasnarine Bisnauth and Ganesh Dhanraj pleaded guilty to escaping from lawful custody on April 20th.
Magistrate Marissa Mittelholzer yesterday read the charge to the trio via Skype.
Padmore was sentenced to two years while Dhanraj and Bisnauth were each sentenced to 21 months imprisonment.
Padmore, 26, of Ogle Street, Beterver-wagting, East Coast Demerara; Bisnauth, 24, of Lot 22 Tuschen, East Bank Esse-quibo (EBE) and Dhanraj, 32, of Parika Facade, EBE escaped around 3.26 am on April 20 by scaling the fence.
The trio were recaptured on separate occasions in May.
The Guyana Prison Service, in a press release, had said that investigations revealed that the escape took place during “heavy rainfall.”
The inmates were only discovered to be missing during a roll call at 6.15 am.
Ranks on duty at the time were questioned as part of the investigation.
Dhanraj is on remand for murder, while Bisnauth is on remand for robbery and armed robbery and Padmore is serving a three-year sentence for trafficking of cannabis.
Dhanraj is accused of strangling his 29-year-old wife, Dhanwantie Ram, in April, 2017.
