“No problem.”
Was Elton Dharry’s response to a potential rematch with Dexter ‘De Kid’ Marques after the latter recently indicated he would be interested in a rematch.
A few days ago, Marques mentioned that he aspires to avenge the 2011 TKO loss to the USA based Dharry.
Dharry, who has mutual respect for ‘De Kid’ said that he is open to a rematch.
“I mean if the fights I’m looking forward to doesn’t materialize. I will fight him again. He’s a competitive fighter and I think it’s going to be good for boxing in Guyana.”
Marques who has a record of 17-2-0, has not lost since the blemish to his resume versus Dharry almost a decade ago.
Dharry, 34, added “Whenever things reopen and if I don’t have a fight scheduled. I’ll accept a fight with him. It could be a few months, it could be a year” Dharry told Stabroek Sport yesterday.
He continued “Boxing has been quiet over the past few years in Guyana and this fight would pit two of the best current local fighters. It would be good for boxing in Guyana. He’s a good fighter and I have a lot of respect for him. There’s a good possibility that it could happen if I don’t land the fights that I’m looking to fight. I’m interested in a rematch if that’s what he wants I have no problem.”
Dharry (24-6-1) who fought for the WBA super flyweight world title last November, however noted that he is keenly interested in fighting the best in the division as he believes he still has what it takes to capture an elusive world title.
“I want the big fights. I believe I’m among the best in the division and I want to prove that. Right now boxing is going on with no fans allowed so I’m not going to wait around for nobody. If the big fights come first, I’ll do that. If Dexter comes first I’ll do that.”
Dharry, who recently restarted training at the Gleason Boxing Gym in Brooklyn then concluded by stating “To everybody, stay safe, take precautions and hope for the best.”
