Veteran cricket commentator, Joseph ‘Reds’ Perreira has suggest the utilization of the National Stadium, Providence and the Ramada Princess Hotel as a bio-secure environment.
This theory is supported by Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Director of Operations, Michael Hall.
The two made the propositions while appearing on the Mason and Guest show on Tuesday last.
Perreira, speaking to the panel of guests and host said, “Looking forward to 2021 let us say COVID will still be around and we are faced with the same situation health wise with the players and officials, the Providence ground is around the corner from an international hotel I can say or the other way around.”
Hall supported the idea of exploring this alternative and said, “yes it would lend itself very well to being a possible bubble situation. It would be the closest thing in the Caribbean to what existed in Manchester and Southampton when West Indies were in England in that the ground was attached to the hotel. This would be as close to it as we would get anywhere in the Caribbean I would think.”
However, the duo highlighted a few components that would also be areas of concern if this was to materialize.
Hall argued that the Hotel accommodation “could stand for a little bit of refurb [Refurbishing] and upgrade” while Perreira made it known that there was only one international venue in the country at this moment.
Perreira also indicated that there would be a case to have arrangements made with the Guyana authorities as well as the financial aspect being a key discussion point.
