The Ministry of Health yesterday revealed that two more persons from Region One, Barima-Waini have died after contracting the coronavirus disease.
The two deceased have only been identified as a 67-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman.
This is was disclosed by the Ministry of Health (MOH) in two separate statements yesterday. “The MOH regrettably informs that as of 15:00hrs on September 21st, 2020, one other person who tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has died. This death will be reflected on tomorrow’s dashboard,” the Ministry said in its first statement.
It was added that a sample from the patient was collected from the time of admission. The test result revealed that the patients was infected with COVID-19.
A few hours later, the Ministry issued another statement saying that another person who was infected with the disease had died.
The Ministry expressed condolences to the families and stated that they will make every effort to provide all the necessary support during this time to render any assistance needed. In addition, the statement said that all relatives of the deceased have been contacted to commence contact tracing protocols.
A total of 67 persons have now died from COVID-19.
To date, the Ministry has recorded 2402 confirmed cases with 1359 recoveries.
According to the Ministry’s dashboard, 133 additional COVID-19 cases were recorded from the 302 samples that were tested yesterday. Eighty of the new cases are from Region Four, 24 from Region One, 19 from Region Three, 4 from Region Seven, two cases each from Regions six and Ten and one case each from Region Two and Eight.
The dashboard also revealed that 16 persons are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 102 in institutional isolation, 860 in home isolation and 60 persons in institutional quarantine.
