Plans are in the pipeline for the hosting of a ‘celebratory’ bodybuilding competition in December.
So said President of the Guyana Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation Inc., (GBBFFI), Keavon Bess.
Bess disclosed that the event will be void of fans but will be streamed live from the National Cultural Centre as the federation will look to engage patrons while observing the COVID-19 restrictions.
“The bodybuilding federation is in talks with sponsors to do a virtual competition in early December,” Bess revealed yesterday.
The federation head posited that the show will feature a celebration of health, fitness and resilience as Guyana and the world navigate through the rough waters of the current pandemic.
Quizzed on the calibre of physiques that will potentially be on stage since gyms have been closed for the past six months, Bess responded “With the gyms closed, we know the athletes are not in the best of shape. It’s more or less a celebratory competition for novice and senior athletes. It’s a show off of the athletes off season physiques because basically everyone is off season right now.”
Bess, an Attorney-at-Law concluded by stating that providing the federation received the necessary funding, lucrative cash prizes will be given to the competing athletes.
