Lawmen on Friday captured a West Coast Berbice murder suspect at Cotton Tree Village, West Coast Berbice.
The Guyana Police Force confirmed that police ranks, acting on information, arrested Richardo Mitchell, also known as, ‘Cardo,’ 31, who was wanted for the killing of Winston Roger Robertson.
The police said the suspect was in a house at the back of the village when the ranks arrived and while he quickly fled into the canefields he was eventually captured there.
Robertson, 33, of D’Edward Village, West Bank Berbice, was shot once in the region of his chest at Cotton Tree Village, West Coast Berbice on August 10th. He succumbed the next day.
The fatal shooting stemmed from a fight between Mitchell and his girlfriend, whom he had accused of infidelity. Mitchell subsequently found Robertson in conversation with the woman at a house at Cotton Tree, where the woman had gone to see a friend who operates a wash bay.
Then Commander of Region Five Yonette Stephens had claimed that the suspect shot Robertson and then turned his attention to his partner and began hitting her with the gun. The woman was hospitalized for some time after the attack.
Relatives and friends of Robertson had stressed that he was only present at the location to wash his car.
