The Child Care and Protection Agency (CPA) is investigating the death of two-year-old Ronaldo Favourite, who succumbed last week almost one month after he allegedly consumed milk laced with a methamphetamine.
Head of the CPA Ann Greene yesterday told Stabroek News that the agency was informed of the incident after Favourite’s death and an investigation was immediately launched.
“We still trying to put all the dots together,” Greene said.
According to Greene, the child was left in the care of his relatives following the recent death of his mother.
Stabroek News had reported that Favourite of ‘C’ Field, Sophia succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) on Friday.
Police Commander of Region 4A Assistant Commissioner Simon McBean had confirmed that an investigation is ongoing into the child’s ingestion of the drug, which occurred earlier this month.
According to McBean, information received by the police so far has revealed that an uncle of the child reportedly put the drug into a glass of milk and left it.
In the absence of the uncle, the child allegedly consumed the milk, McBean said.
Favourite was rushed to the GPH on September 6th in an unconscious state by an aunt. It was subsequently discovered that he had consumed the methamphetamine and the doctors immediately alerted the police.
Favourite was admitted for some time before eventually being discharged. He recently fell ill again and was taken back to the hospital, where he subsequently died.
No one is currently in police custody. However, the child’s aunt was questioned and several efforts made to locate the uncle have since proven futile, McBean said.
