Guyana’s COVID-19 deaths now stand at 80 as two more were recorded yesterday.
The Ministry of Health in a press release announced that the country’s 79th and 80th COVID-19 fatalities were recorded as of 5pm on Tuesday. According to the ministry, the latest fatalities are a 77-year-old man and a 67-year-old woman both from Region Four.
They both died while receiving treatment at a health facility in the region.
Meanwhile, 59 new cases were recorded and this was revealed in the Ministry’s COVID-19 dashboard which showed that Guyana’s total positive case count now stands at 2,846. Some 152 more persons were tested during the last round and as such the total number of persons tested increased to 13,988.
Of the new cases, eight were recorded in Region One, six in Region Three, 39 in Region Four, one each in Regions Five and Six and four in Region Eight. There are currently 1,110 active cases in the country of which 917 are on approved home isolation while 193 are in institutional isolation. The current active cases account for 39% of the total positive cases recorded to date. Twelve persons are currently in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit while 87 persons are currently in institutional quarantine.
Some 36 more persons have recovered from the virus which increased the total number of recoveries to 1,644.
