Despite Kaieteur International B finishing in the penultimate spot of the Scarborough Cricket League First Division tournament, Matthew Nandu ended the season as the most prolific batsman.
Statistically, the former Guyana under-17 top order batsman secured an average of 106, the highest among all batsmen while accumulating 318 runs in four innings. His tally sits comfortably as the most by any batsman playing in the tournament having scored one ton and two half centuries. Also, Nandu’s 146 in his first match of the competition was the highest individual score.
Nandu capped off the season on a high, scoring 80 but Kaieteur International B suffered their fifth loss after surrendering to United Titans by a three-run margin on Sunday.
Kaieteur won the toss and invited Titans to bat who posted 218 for seven in their allotted 42 overs. In reply, Kaieteur reached 215 for nine when the overs expired.
Nandu’s 88-ball innings featured 11 fours and one six. The 17-year-oldgot support from Navin Nauth, who laced four boundaries in his 52-ball innings while scoring 33 runs and Jordan Patel who made 30 from 54 balls. Kaieteur’s push was aided by 31 extras. Ali Hasan took four for 44 and Roshan Hemani returned three for 36 to lead Titans’ bowling efforts.
Earlier, Titans’ innings was piloted by Hemani who made 52 from 45 balls as he smashed half a dozen fours and three sixes. Hemani shared a 59-run third wicket partnership with Mohamed Chaiwala (30) to build on the foundation laid by their captain, Bilal Chaudry who made 39 from 28 balls, decorated by three sixes and four fours.Trushil Patel ended with three for 46 while Chetram Nauth bagged two for 38.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Kaieteur blew away Hurricanes by 133 runs in the Brampton-Etobicoke and District Cricket League (BEDCL) Premier Division tournament.
Kaieteur won the toss and elected to take first strike where they posted 241 for seven before restricting Hurricanes to 108 all out in 32.4 overs.
Leading the charge for Kaieteur with bat in hand was Theron Ramlal who stroked 67, highlighted by five fours and one six. Ramlal was supported by former West Indies under-19 player, Arjune Nandu who stroked an unbeaten half century. The 48-year-old father of Matthew rolled back the years with a 65-ball innings that featured three fours and a six.
Hurricanes’ chase was strangled by Raqib Shamsudeen (3-21) and Daniel Argunen (3-23) while Ramlal returned to take two for 32.
