With West Indies Women completing their five-match T20I series versus England, Interim Head Coach Andre Coley is looking towards the positives amid a forgettable tour.
Coley accepted that the two-time world T20 champions champions have been inconsistent in all facets of the game but contended that there were signs of improvement as the series unraveled.
Speaking to the media during a recent zoom conference, Coley stated, “I think it is also an opportunity for us as West Indies Cricket and us as coaching staff to have a very good indication as to where we are as a team and individually.”
“This series has definitely given us that opportunity to see that [level of our side] and if we are honest with ourselves we will see that there are areas where we have been strong, maybe not as consistent as we would want to be but we would have shown growth in all areas at some point during this series, ” said Coley who is the team’s interim coach.
Coley stated that the feedback from everyone shows positivity while adding an intrinsic value as to what is required at the international stage.
Despite the series loss, Coley explained that his side’s batting during the power play phase of the game had improved throughout while their bowling in that period also developed.
Nevertheless, Coley indicated that there were some areas that came up short. In the batting department, the Jamaican suggested that there was a lack of collective contributions since only one batter at a time got going in most matches with little to no support from the rest of the side.
Of the bowling and fielding areas, Coley opined, “We fielded well in most of our matches, yes we have dropped a few catches but in terms of putting England under pressure when running between the wickets we have definitely done that, last two games we have been very good in the lines and lengths in the power play which has pegged them back from the first two matches.”
