West Indies limited-overs skipper Kieron Pollard has been the most impactful Caribbean player in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) thus far.
After yesterday’s round of matches which marked just over two weeks of competition, Pollard has been one of the central figures to take his side atop the points table at the midway point of the tournament.
The towering West Indian is among the top run-getters with 163 runs at an average of 163 after finishing unbeaten on four occasions.
Pollard is also the only batsman with over 150 runs in the tournament so far who is operating at a strike rate of over 200; his bowling and leadership have been a plus for the defending champions.
Meanwhile, young guns Shimron Hetmyer (35 runs from four games) and Nicholas Pooran (119 runs from five games), have endured a little bit of an indifferent outing so far as compared to expectations.
On the bowling side, West Indian star performer Sheldon Cottrell has been among the top performers for Kings XI Punjab with six scalps while his economy rate has been hovering around the eight-run mark.
Andrew Russell, with 48 runs and four wickets, has underperformed for Kolkata Knight Riders while his teammate Sunil Narine has only managed 27 runs and two wickets in a surprisingly poor run to date.
Chennai Super Kings’ Dwayne Bravo is wicketless after two outings while Chris Gayle, Jason Holder, Oshane Thomas, Fabian Allen, Keemo Paul, and Sherfane Rutherford are yet to feature.
