Almost three dozen local female entrepreneurs have created a support group to promote each other’s’ businesses.
The women behind “Gold Diggers” have been trying to give new meaning to the term, which is traditionally used to describe women who prey on men for money.
The organisation was founded earlier this year by three women, Olayne Joseph, Candacy Jeffrey and Kellon Hinds, who were trying to find a solution to how best they could assist each other in wake of the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on their respective businesses.
Gold Diggers consists of some thirty members, all of whom are Guyanese women.
Joseph noted that because no two women can have the very same audience, each woman would advertise the other’s business on her social media page. The women are required to share the businesses of two others each day on their own social media accounts.
“[Since the functioning of the group] most persons would reach out at the end of the day to say that they have reached their targets for the day or that they only have one item remaining,” Joseph, the proprietor for Exquisite Extension, said.
In addition, the Gold Diggers Instagram page also advertises the businesses.
Joseph explained that when she knows her turn to be advertised is just around the corner, she makes products specifically to be sold on that day.
She noted that they prefer to advertise on Instagram as they have a larger overseas-based audience there.
The group organized their first meet up on August 23rd, where all of the members of the group met physically for the first time and got to know each other better. “We all had a good time…for the first time we got to meet each other,” said Joseph.
This meet up has encouraged them to plan and look forward to another event – a ‘Sip and Paint’ event.
To be a part of Gold Diggers, interested female entrepreneurs can message the group’s Instagram page. Interested persons must be open to advertising the businesses of the other members on their own social media pages.
