Nicholas Williams, the man accused of killing his former partner last Tuesday morning, was on Friday charged with her murder.
Williams, 45, of Lot 138 King Edward Street, Albouystown, appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, in a Georgetown court, where he was charged with murdering Clarabel Johnson.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison until October 23rd, when the matter will be called again.
Johnson, 28, was attacked a few houses away from the Lot 142 Cooper Street, Albouystown home she shared with her parents.
A Guyana Police Force statement had said the woman’s former partner carried out the attack around 6.25 am, following a misunderstanding between the two. It said that the suspect chopped Johnson with a cutlass behind her right knee. She was subsequently picked up by neighbours and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), where she died while receiving treatment at 7.21 am.
Later the said evening, police went to a location in James Street, Albouystown where they arrested the suspect.
