More than a month after he was shot by two men on a bicycle, city businessman Lennox Robinson yesterday afternoon succumbed to his injuries at a city hospital.
Police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Royston Andries-Junor yesterday confirmed that Robinson, 72 of Lot 55 South Ruimveldt Park, Georgetown succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) around 4 pm.
Robinson was shot on September 2nd while he was sitting in front of his business establishment, Robinson’s General Store which is situated at Drysdale & Lombard streets, Georgetown. He was rushed to the GPH, where he was admitted as a patient in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) up to his demise.
Andries-Junor said as the police investigation continues, no arrest has yet been made.
The police had said that Robinson was sitting in front of his business place when he was confronted by two males on a bicycle.
An argument ensued which then led to a scuffle between the men.
Robinson, a licensed firearm holder, was relieved of his gun and shot in the abdomen by one of the suspects, causing him to fall to the ground.
The suspects escaped with his firearm.
Contacted yesterday, the dead man daughter, Jewel Robinson said the manner in which her father was killed was “callous”.
“It was a long process. You know he was shot on the 2nd (September) and he only died today (yesterday). He is 72 years old, so this was very difficult for him,” Jewel said.
She added that while he was hospitalised, Lennox underwent a total of six surgeries and also lost both of his legs and an arm due to medical complications he had.
“My father is 72 years old. He was shot in the abdomen and he had a very painful death. He lost an arm and he lost both of his legs before he succumbed. So he suffered considerably,” she related.
According to Jewel, the motive for the shooting remains unknown. She said following the incident, Robinson was in and out of consciousness but he didn’t provide any “concrete” details regarding the shooting.
“So right now hopefully it’s in the hands of the authorities. We have heard nothing so far,” Jewel noted.
Jewel further added that the family have a lot of unanswered questions surrounding the incident and is hoping that the killer/s will be brought to justice.
“Nothing has been done as far as I know. We have received no report regarding the situation. As far as we know, no progress has been made in the investigation. No concrete progress. Right now we are grieving and we are not looking for vengeance but it would be gratifying to know that someone is brought to justice for this,” Jewel stated.
