An Essequibo Coast family is now in mourning after a trip to a beach ended in a drowning on Sunday.
Humal Jaggernauth, 25, of 3 Public Road, Spring Garden, Essequibo Coast, who was an employee of Hakh Rice Investment, was found yesterday morning after a search was conducted to recover his body.
A police statement said around 11.30 am on Sunday, Jaggernauth and 25 of his relatives left his residence in a wooden vessel, on their way to the beach.
On arrival at the beach, the report explained, most of the other members of Jaggernauth’s family exited the boat and went ashore, leaving him and his uncle, Ranjeev Sahadeo, also known as ‘Randy,’ to moor the boat.
After mooring the boat, the two began swimming to shore but Jaggernauth never made it.
After reaching shore, Ranjeev realised that his nephew was nowhere in sight and immediately alerted their other relatives. As a result a search was launched for Jaggernauth.
Yogeeta Jaggernauth, a sister of the deceased, told this newspaper that her brother and uncle had dropped them off at the beach before heading out to tie the boat due to the high tide.
The woman explained that the two decided to swim back to the beach. She said when Sahadeo arrived he was out of breath, while her brother could not be located.
Humal was described as a respectful, kind and friendly individual.
