Shape Custom Creationz will today host a virtual fashion show to launch the brand’s 2021 collection, ‘Behind the Mask’. Models will individually flaunt each hand-designed piece on the catwalk at Century Palm Gardens.
According to designer Donna Ramsammy-James, the collection consists of 53 pieces specially designed for both men and women.
Ramsammy-James said she had no plans to put on a virtual show but many of her models and friends encouraged her, so she thought why not. The designer noted that it has been a somewhat sombre preparation as the models practicing routines had always been something to look forward to over the years. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, she has spent the last two weeks preparing with each model individually. Though she is grateful that everyone is still around to celebrate life and another occasion, she said it is not as fun as when they were all together.
Nonetheless, she said all her models are professionals on the runway, having showcased both her designs as well as those of other designers over the course of many years. She calls them her babies as many of them started strutting the runway while they were still in school. Some now have careers in medicine, law, and the environment.
Though there are several pieces for couples in the collection, Ramsammy-James said that the models will all showcase their pieces individually. Viewers may be able to pick up on the pieces for couples owing to their similar patterns and because one of the partners will be following behind. ‘Behind the Mask’, though inspired by the current pandemic, captures the flair infused from Asian and African cultures. All of the pieces can be dressed up or down for formal or informal events. And who says chic can’t also be comfortable? Ramsammy-James is known for her classy yet comfortable pieces. “This collection reflects the mood I think the world is feeling right now,” she said.
Meanwhile, as usual, photographers Amanda Richards and Aubrey Crawford will capture each perfect pose. Allana Bose will go live on Facebook from the Shape Custom Creationz’ page. NCN will also be present at the event and Ramsammy-James noted that persons can look forward to NCN’s airing of the show next Sunday.
