Region Seven currently has 58 active cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Regional Health Officer Dr Edward Sagala in a statement yesterday noted that COVID-19 is very much present in the region especially in Bartica and the lower Cuyuni-Mazaruni area.
“In spite of this fact, we are now experiencing a relaxed and carefree approach by our residents, as persons now seem to have no regard for the National COVID-19 prevention measures, indulging in much social gatherings and disregard for the wearing of face masks,” he stated.
Dr Sagala disclosed that to date a total of 351 cases have been confirmed in the region inclusive of nine deaths. According to the statement there are four persons in institutional quarantine, 52 persons in home quarantine, and 35 persons in home isolation. There are 58 active COVID-19 cases in the region.
The Regional Health Emergency Committee encourages residents to continue to take all precautions against this deadly disease by practicing social distancing, wearing a face mask in public, washing and sanitising hands often, and avoiding crowds.
“Remember, many persons are able to recover from this disease, but those same persons present a danger to others whose immune system may be compromised in one way or another. The person you put in danger may be your own loved one,” the statement added.
