Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony (left) has held what his ministry said were “fruitful talks” with Canadian High Commissioner to Guyana Lilian Chatterjee (centre), focusing on key areas for which technical assistance in the health sector can be provided by Canada.
The discussions were held on October 21, 2020, when Chatterjee paid a courtesy call on the Minister at his Brickdam office, Georgetown. Counsellor for Development Cooperation at the High Commission Janine Cocker (right) and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health Malcolm Watkins were also present, a release from the ministry said.
Chatterjee stated that a niche area for the Canadian High Commission is the provision of technical assistance in the health care field. One of these areas is the possible development of an ‘app’ geared at tracking COVID-19 patients or those who have been tested.
Dr. Anthony, said according to the release, that the development of the app will improve the capacity of officers at the Port Health Department who are stationed at the respective ports of entry, since it will help with more effective surveillance.
