The Private Sector Commission (PSC) yesterday donated 2,000 medical masks to the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to aid in the protection of ranks as they perform their duties during the current COVID-19 pandemic.
A brief handing over ceremony was held in the Boardroom of the Commissioner of Police at Kingston, Eve Leary, where Chairman of the PSC Nicholas Deygoo-Boyer and Corporate Coordi-nator Manniram Prashad handed over the masks and a cheque for $99,000 to Commissioner of Police Nigel Hoppie.
According to Deygoo-Boyer, the money will aid in the purchasing of cloth to sew reusable facemasks for members of the force so they will be protected from COVID-19 while carrying out their duties.
Hoppie expressed gratitude to the PSC for its timely donation, while noting that Operation COVI-Curb was recently launched to sensitise members of each community about COVID-19 and the importance of them adhering to the emergency measures instituted by the government. He noted that members of GPF continue to work in each area of the country to ensure that persons are adhering to the national curfew and other restrictions. “We need to engage, educate, encourage and enforce and we have been doing that we are hoping that people will continue to adhere. So we, would like to express thanks for this timely donation,” he said.
