The Rotary Club of Georgetown Central has donated outdoor workout equipment to the National Park in George-town.
The equipment was formally handed over yesterday to the Director of the National Parks Commission Denise Bentick.
During the brief ceremony, Bentick expressed thanks on behalf of the Commission, while noting that since the reopening of the National Park, they have been seeing many persons in the park, especially during the afternoons.
“The donation of this outdoor equipment will go a far way in providing a service to the persons who wish to do exercise because gyms were closed as a result of the national restrictions and persons are looking for a venue to do their exercises. We have also witnessed people congregating in numbers to use this equipment so that tells you we need some more. Thank you very much to the Rotarians. This will contribute to the mental health and also general health of well-being of persons coming here,” she said.
Meanwhile, Rotary Club of Georgetown Central representative Keisha Chung revealed that the project was conceptualised prior to the pandemic but was delayed as result of it. “As you know gyms are closed and people do not have access to basic workout equipment so the Rotary Club of Georgetown Central saw it fit to have these made,” she said before adding that all the equipment was locally made.
Chung added that the Club is hoping to build similar equipment in other parks across the country and they would welcome any contributions towards the initiative.
