A miner was killed on Sunday at Quartz Stone Backdam, Cuyuni River. He was found with wounds to the head and the throat.
According to a Guyana Police Force statement, the deceased, 33-year-old Allensford Consford Sargon, was found in front of a shop in the area in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
Sargon was employed with a mine operator belonging to No. 40 Village, West Coast Berbice.
According to the dead man’s employer, at approximately 9 pm on the previous night he washed down his dredge and paid all his workers. It was noted that Sargon left the camp sometime after and went to Quartz Stone Landing.
The statement further added that a shop owner operating at Quartz Stone, around 4.30 am, was awakened by someone who informed him that Sargon was murdered in front of his shop.
Upon venturing outside he saw the deceased lying motionless about 12 feet north of his shop.
A report was subsequently made to the police, who later arrived at the scene and found the body of the dead man in the aforementioned location clad in a pair of three-quarter pants and a dark blue t-shirt.
The deceased was examined and two incised wounds to the head and throat were found.
When contacted, Commander of Region Seven Deon Moore, told Stabroek News that the police are currently in the area conducting further investigations.
