The Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF), the local governing body of the discipline, will stage its Annual General Meeting (AGM) via the digital platform of Zoom on December 13th from 18:00hrs.
This is, according to a release from the General Secretary, Patrick Haynes, yesterday.
According to the correspondence, the decision to stage the constitutionally mandated forum emanated from a GABF Executive Board meeting which took place October 22nd.
The release added that the meeting, which will be attended by the respective associations and affiliates under the umbrella of the federation, will inform the membership on the objectives and progress achieved during the year of 2020.
“Following the GABF Executive Board meeting held on 22 October 2020, the GABF 2020 AGM aims to keep the Sub-Associations and Affiliates informed on the progress that the GABF is making on its objectives and to provide information and useful knowledge on essential strategies of the GABF’s work. This will give us an opportunity to look back at everything that has been achieved over the last two years,” the release stated.
Working documents of the AGM will be sent to the registered delegates that are scheduled to attend the forum on December 6th; the release stated adding that members must register online no later than December 5th to attend proceedings.
“Each Sub-Association and Affiliate is limited to two delegates and must register to attend. Observers may register but must consult and channel their remarks via their first delegate. All delegates must register with an individual email address, via the GABF online registration website by clicking on the link below, no later than 5 December 2020. https://tinyurl.com/GABF2020AGM. Important: It is each delegate’s responsibility to duly complete his/her online registration, indicating all necessary information. GABF will not be responsible for any issue arising due to incomplete, incorrect or un-updated information.”
Among the items on the agenda are: The GABF Strategy, the Adelante Women’s Forum Update, FIBA Updates, 2021 Event Calendar as well as the submissions of the President, Treasurer, Development, Marketing and Compliance Reports.
Mike Singh, President of the GABF during an invited comment said, “The need is to continue the governance of the federation, ensuring that all associations even though there is dormancy are still regulating and staying on top of certain things. Also speaking with the Minister of Sport, they want to see structure, governance and administration. With all of that we are coming up on year two and what we are looking at is to have structures and protocols in place for when the sport resumes inclusive of YBG and put them in place.”
He added, “We are also looking at creating a national database for players and this can identify any player who could be susceptible to the disease and they will not be allowed on the court when we resume. There will be protocols like medicals and if we have a player who is, for example diabetic, we won’t allow him or her to be on the court. The last thing any sport administrator wants is for someone to die because they were involved in the sport.”
